Filing a petition
Pursuant to Florida Statute, you may file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board if you do not agree with your property assessment or you may institute legal action in Circuit Court.
The Value Adjustment Board petition (form DR-486), as well as all Department of Revenue forms for the Value Adjustment Board, can be downloaded below:

The filing fee of $15.00, pursuant to Florida Statute 194.013(1) should accompany the petition, except those petitions exempted by Florida Statute 194.013(1) and pursuant to Resolution 2023-01 of the Hardee County Value Adjustment Board.

Paying Property Taxes
Please refer to Florida Statute Chapter 194.014 for the requirements for paying property taxes for the petitioner who files a petition challenging the assessed value of their property, the denial of an exemption or classification, or the assessment based on an argument that the property was not substantially complete as of January 1. Please contact the Hardee County Tax Collector’s Office concerning payment of property taxes or other tax information.

The Value Adjustment Board Organizational Meeting and Value Adjustment Board Hearings are held in the Hardee County Board of County Commissioners County Commissioner Chambers, 412 West Orange Street, Room 102, Wauchula, FL 33873.
Pursuant to Florida Statute 286.0105, if a person decides to appeal any decision made by the board with respect to any matter considered at such meeting, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
The Offices of the Clerk of Courts will be closed for Christmas Holiday on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, and Wednesday, December 25, 2024.
